Our hearts are heavy and exhausted AND we are hopeful.
To our Sanctuary supporters and followers, and to all animal lovers, we are asking for your immediate help to save Omega's life, with your donation, of any amount, to her medical fund.
You see, we have a very sick donkey.
Her name is Omega. She is only 5-years-old, with decades of life ahead of her. She and her donkey pal, Bob, were stricken with a rare and often deadline neurotoxxin, Botulism, on January 31st.
Bob died within 12 hours of diagnosis. Our hearts are broken and we miss him very much.
AND we can't rest. Our dear and sweet Omega is fighting for her life and we are doing everything we can at her home, this Sanctuary, to save her life.
MEDICAL FUND: Daily treatments, medication, veterinary visits and bloodwork are running at $600.00 a day. With botulism, it will take up to 3 weeks of intensive nursing and treatments, estimated at $12,000 - and this is a conservative estimate.
Fortunately, Omega was immediately started on treatment and didn't have the advanced stage of Botulism that Bob had.
Our Executive Director, Kelly, who has a background in veterinary critical care nursing, has been with Omega, almost 24/7, except for sleep. Because of Kelly's nursing skills, Omega is still here at the Sanctuary, her home, for her treatment, rather than a sterile vet hospital, savings thousands of dollars.
REQUEST: Please donate today and join other animal lovers on 'TEAM OMEGA,.' With your donation, leave a personal message here for Omega and we will read all notes to her. Thank you for sharing this story on your social media channels.
Always for the Animals,
Kelly Lapham, Executive Director

WHAT OMEGA HAS: Botulism in horses and donkeys is a rare, a devastating illness that occurs when they ingest toxins produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria.
This causes disruption of communication between nerves and muscles, leading to debilitating and potentially deadly neuromuscular impairment. Without prompt treatment, botulism in horses is almost always fatal.
