Doc's Story

Doc, a purebred Tennessee Walking Horse, was a working ranch horse in Eastern Washington for much of his life. He enjoyed having a purpose and performed any of the hard ranch work his owner asked of him.

When he got too old to work the ranch, he was adopted by a family in Arlington Washington who loved him for many years. Sadly, the family ran into severe financial problems and could no longer keep him. Doc came to live out his elder years at Blackdawg Farm and Sanctuary (BDFS).

BDFS Founder Kelly and Doc formed a strong bond in their mutual LOVE of trail rides. Ears up, nose in the air, a hoof tapping happy dance, Doc sets the pace exploring each new twist and turn with, true to his breed, a gait as smooth as butter.

As much as Doc loves a good trail ride, he has an unusual problem that makes him very cranky in his old age. Doc has caught the love sick, doe eyes of Finn, one of the cows at BDFS.  Yes, Doc has his very own cow stalker.  Finn follows Doc wherever he goes.  Doc is not impressed.

We are happy Doc can live out his retirement at BDFS.
